At many universities, learning is scattered across different departments and systems. This makes it difficult to make learning accessible and to ensure quality across the entire organization.
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) faced exactly this challenge. Despite offering a wide range of professional development opportunities, there was no single central hub that brought everything together and provided insight into learners’ progress.
L&D professionals, managers, and staff at the UvA can all relate to this: when learning is fragmented, it becomes harder to understand needs, allocate resources effectively, and demonstrate impact. It was clear to the UvA that this had to change.
The University of Amsterdam recognized the need for change. Their vision was to create a uniform and structured learning environment for all staff members: from faculty and PhD students to IT teams and support staff.
The goal is to centralize learning while also making it accessible, measurable, and relevant. A platform where employees can easily find learning activities and where L&D teams can gain insights into engagement and progress.
At the heart of this vision was the shift toward data-driven learning: an approach that supports both individual development and organizational goals.
In collaboration with Next Learning Valley, the University of Amsterdam has fundamentally redesigned its approach to learning.
With StreamLXP as the central platform and guidance from our educational consultants, Aksel de Leeuw and Erica Tiemes, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) achieved not only a technological implementation but, above all, a fundamental improvement in the structure and coherence of its course offerings.
Our consultants have overcome fragmentation by restructuring learning activities and streamlining processes. This ensures that technology, pedagogy, and the organization’s day-to-day operations are aligned.
All learning activities are now offered centrally, organized in a modular format, and managed consistently. This makes learning more accessible, easier to organize, and easier to manage.
With a single central platform:.
All training courses in one place
Learning activities are centrally available and logically organized for the entire organization.
Insight into progress
Participation and learning progress are visible across the organization and can be analyzed immediately.
Less manual work
Back-office teams work more efficiently thanks to centralized processes and less fragmentation.
Ready for innovation
The groundwork has been laid for AI, automation, and personalized learning at scale.
The platform also provides a solid foundation for learning analytics. The UvA can now monitor participation and progress across the entire organization and turn this data into actionable insights.
This enables L&D teams to:
It also paves the way for further innovation. Thanks to its centralized architecture, technologies such as AI, chatbots, and automation can be leveraged to make learning even smarter and more personalized.
The implementation of StreamLXP marks an important milestone for the University of Amsterdam.
Training programs are now centrally accessible, measurable, and consistently structured. Content and processes have been streamlined, resulting in greater clarity and efficiency.
More importantly, the university now has insight into learning progress—something that was previously lacking.
Together, we are now moving on to the next phase, in which we will further increase the impact of learning:
