A Look Back: Our MOOC Journey on Personalized Learning

As we reflect on this incredible experience, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished together! With over 340 active participants and 1,000+ comments, this MOOC brought together insights, real-world applications, and engaging discussions that highlighted the growing importance of personalized learning. The enthusiasm and interaction we saw proved that personalized learning is more than just a buzzword—it’s a powerful shift in how we approach education and training. But how did Marc Fuentes Bongenaar experience it, and what were his thoughts throughout the process? Marc, who built and moderated most of the MOOC, looks back and shares his reflections on the journey.

A Reflection by Marc Fuentes Bongenaar
“I created most of the content in the MOOC and moderated it throughout the weeks, and it was a very inspiring process. The approach we took in the creation of this MOOC was to follow the “what – why – how – how further” week-by-week structure, which felt very appropriate for this topic. Of course, the content we created was carefully curated and set for each week, but we had an expert video every week where the experts were given a lot of freedom in the topics they discussed. Funnily enough, three out of four experts took a very similar approach in their videos, using AI tools as a content generator and even as a discussion partner. This not only resonated well with the MOOC participants, but also has interesting implications for social learning. Especially the video of Wilfred Rubens, who had a discussion with AI, showcases the next chapter of learning and development, enhanced and accelerated by AI, where the definition of “social” is taken to its furthest.” — Marc Fuentes Bongenaar, L&D consultant at Next Learning Valley
